Email Security
Make sure your company's email is an asset.
Email is a backbone of communication for modern businesses for the modern business, but all too often it can turn into a hassle unless you have a server capable of handling the latest technologies.

Why?

Hackers and spammers are constantly looking for ways to cause trouble and as they do the authentications methods we use to send email must evolve.

Secure Email Systems
Secure email systems will do two things.

First, since hackers have been known to intercept the transmission of your password when are getting your email, the Savvy Server encrypts this information.

Second, A couple of years ago, spammers started to take advantage older technology emails systems so the natural reaction was to lock them down. Sadly, that meant remote and travelling users could not send email. The Savvy Server use a system called SMTP AUTH to gracefully handle this situation.
SMTP Authentication
SMTP AUTH keeps you connected on the road
Before anyone sends a message through the Savvy Server they must prove they have a valid account on the server. Your email client (Outlook or Thunderbird) proves your validity by sending a password for all outbound email.

Previously, password authentication was only used for incoming email. That is, the system would not give you your email unless you proved who you are. The Savvy Server use authentication in all cases.

Automatic Firewall Configuration
Selecting a protocol opens the firewall
Selecting SMTP over SSL (port 465) is simply a matter of selecting 'Public' or 'Private' from a dropdown box. When you do the Savvy server automatically configures the firewall to allow for these new ports.

Similiarly, the Savvy Server also supports POP over SSL and IMAP over SSL. When you select these options the firewall is automatically configured to allow the appropriate connections, leaving you to focus on how to make your business profitable.

More

Secure Email Passwords
Keeping your passwords a secret

Using a password to authenticate is not without it own problems. So while it ensures that your server only handles requests from valid users it also sends your password everytime you want to send email. Hackers have long used a device called a sniffer to gather password that are carelessly sent through the ether.

The Savvy Server allows you to encrypt these passwords. Your email client, assuming it's a modern client, and the Savvy Server will exchange encryption keys to keep your passwords safe. Having your password compromised because of lack of encryption is stupid, but you'd be surprised how many system do not have this facility.
